Taoiseach to announce €50 million funding for Shared Island

More than €50 million in funding will be announced by the Taoiseach today for a number of Shared Island partnership programmes.

It will be Micheál Martin’s final appearance on the show before Leo Varadkar, the leader of the Fine Gael party, takes over on December 17.

The programmes that will receive funding include initiatives to protect biodiversity on peatlands, tourism-related projects, and an expansion of the north-south research programme.

At the second Shared Island forum, which will be held in Dublin Castle, the funding package’s specifics will be disclosed.

It is a part of the government’s Shared Island initiative, which is supported by the Good Friday Agreement and aims to engage all communities and political traditions on a shared future.

With today’s announcement, the Shared Island Fund has now distributed more than €190 million in total over the last two years.
