Tom Hanks to appear at Dalkey Book Festival to promote his debut novel

Hollywood star Tom Hanks will be giving a speech about his debut book, The Making of Another Motion Picture Masterpiece, at the Dalkey Book Festival in June.

His publishers have called the book, which will be published next week, a “wildly ambitious” account of the history of filmmaking that spans several decades.

The official synopsis of the book describes it as being about “a colossal, star-studded, multi-million dollar superhero action film and the humble comic book that inspired it.”

Hanks, who received  two Oscars for his performances in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump, will speak about his book and his move from acting to writing fiction at the Dalkey Festival on June 16. Each ticket holder will also receive a copy of the book, the organisers said.

The annual book festival, which David McWilliams and Sian Smyth founded in 2010, takes place from June 15 to June 18. It has previously hosted Oscar nominees, Booker Prize winners, and Nobel Laureates.
