Two Indian nationals killed in Carlow crash, two others injured

Gardaí have confirmed that all four people involved in a fatal crash in Carlow early this morning were Indian nationals. Two men in their 20s lost their lives when their vehicle collided with a tree on the N80 in Leagh, Rathoe, at approximately 1:15 a.m.

Superintendent Anthony Farrell stated that the black Audi had crossed to the wrong side of the road before the impact. He noted the tragic coincidence that the crash occurred at the exact location where three young people died in an accident one year ago to the day.

The deceased have been named locally as Bhargav Chitturi and Suresh Cherukuri. Both were former students of South East Technological University (SETU), while a third occupant was still studying there. One of the individuals was also employed by MSD locally.

Two other passengers, a man and a woman in their 20s, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to St. Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny. Gardaí are working with SETU and reaching out to the victims’ families in India to offer support.
