Two young men in their 20s were killed in separate road traffic collisions in Dublin and Cork on Saturday.
Gardai in Cork were called to a crash involving a 4×4 and a car in Skibereen shortly before 10.30 p.m.
The car’s driver, a male in his mid-20s, was declared dead on the spot. His body was then transported to Cork University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination will be performed.
The driver of the 4×4, a man in his 40s, was also taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Gardaí said the scene has been preserved for a technical examination, with local diversions in place.

Earlier, gardaí confirmed another man in his 20s also died in a road accident in Dublin on Saturday night.
Garda and emergency services arrived at the site of the collision on the R126 Hearse Road in Donabate, at the junction of Cobbe’s Lane, at about 9.30 p.m.
After receiving treatment from emergency personnel, a biker in his 20s was declared dead at the site.
The body of the man was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, where a post-mortem examination will be performed.
Garda officials offered no information about the second vehicle’s occupants in a statement.
After a technical inspection by Garda Forensic Collision investigators, the road was restored to traffic.
