UK schools will admit hundreds of students with names Otis and Maeve in the coming years; Know why?

Movies influence us for sure. But influence of the hit Netflix series ‘Sex Education’ is going to another level and will be even remembered by our next generation. Know why? According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) in the UK, the names of two protagonists in the series, Maeve and Otis are now two of the popular names chosen by parents for their new-borns.

Two of the central characters in the teen-comedy-drama are nerdy Otis Milburn and the intelligent and beautiful Maeve Wiley. These names have shown a huge popularity in 2020 as given for new born children.

In the top 100 names for girl’s list, Maeve holds the 94th rank. The surprising factor is, the name was below 124 places before 2019. The Netflix show started in January that year.

In the boy’s list, Otis climbs 28 places and now holds the 96th rank. Earlier the name was on the 124th position.

Surely the UK schools will be having hundreds of Otises and Maeves in the coming years.

The characters Otis and Maeve are played by Asa Butterfield and French actress Emma Mackey respectively.

It tells the story of students, staff and parents of Moordale Secondary School, their awkward sexual encounters and emotional ups and downs.
