Urgent recall of food products in Ireland amid presence of pesticide

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) have issued recall warnings for a number of products in Irish market within a week. The recalls include three brands of ice cream, a vitamin product and spice powder due to the presence of pesticide in them. The details of the recalled products are as follow:

Nestlé Milkybar Mini Multipack ice cream

The FSAI recalled certain batches of Nestlé Milkybar Mini Multipack ice creams due to the presence the pesticide ethylene oxide. It was identified in the batch of food additive locust bean gum (E410) used in the production of those ice creams.

Ethylene oxide may not cause sudden health problems but can bring huge health issues if used for a longer period, FSAI said. It is banned in EU countries but is permitted outside EU.

The recalled items are The Nestle Milkybar Mini Multipack ice-creams sold in a box of six. The batch code for the affected products is MI1099 and the best before date is April 2023.

Nuii Salted Caramel ice cream

Another ice cream product recalled after finding the presence of pesticide ethylene oxide is Nuii Salted Caramel ice cream. The reacalled products have the batch codes MI1115 and MI1114, with the best before date April 2023.

Carte D’or Strawberry ice cream

This product was also recalled after the use of banned pesticide ethylene oxide. The country of origin is the UK and affected batches are L1123CL020, L1146AL020, L1146BL020 and L1147BL020, with best before date of May 2023.

Seven Seas Omega-3 and Immunity 30 Day Duo Packs

The vitamin product was recalled due to the presence of 2-Cholesterol, a reaction product of ethylene oxide. The batch numbers affected are as follow:

Batch 247548: Best before July 2022, Batch 247549: Best before July 2022, Batch 256666: Best before March 2023.

True Natural Goodness Organic Turmeric Powder

This Indian made spice product also found in use of unauthorised pesticide ethylene oxide. The recalled pack sized are 25g, 50g, 250g and 500g. The best before dates are between November 10, 2022 to March 11, 2023.
