Vaccine registration for children with underlying conditions begin today

Vaccine registration for children aged 5 to 11 who have underlying conditions starts from today. Children who live with people who are at high risk also can register for vaccines, the HSE has said.

The parents can register for their children using a PPS number, an Eircode, a mobile phone number and an email address. Alternatively, parents can call HSELive on 1800 700 700 to register their child over the phone.

If the child doesn’t have a PPS number, appointments can be made over phone.

After registration, the details of the appointment will be sent via text message. The vaccines will be available at the vaccination centres.

The European Medicines Agency had approved the use of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine for children aged 5-11. The children will be given a lower dose than the adults and two doses will be administered within a gap of three weeks.

“We’re inviting parents of children in this priority group to register their child for their free COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccine is being offered to children who are most at risk from Covid-19, so that they or their vulnerable household contacts can be protected first. Parents of all other children ages 5-11 years will be invited to register in January.” Dr Lucy Jessop, the Director of Public Health in the National Immunisation Office said in a press statement.

Vaccine registration for all other children in this age category will begin in January.
