Volume of retail sales up by 2.8% in April

Retail sales volume increased by 2.8% in April, according to new data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).

This is an increase of 7.5% compared to April 2022, with sales increasing by 0.5% from March and 0.4% from the previous year.

The highest monthly volume rise in sales in April came from bars with a 14% increase, followed by motor trades with a 10.3% increase and clothing, footwear, and textiles with a 9.5% increase.

The volume growth for the automotive industry was 18.1%, followed by fuel’s volume growth of 5.5% and books, periodicals, and stationery’s volume growth of 5.9% in the previous year.

In the previous year, volume sales of food, beverages, and tobacco decreased by 7.8%, while sales of furniture and lighting decreased by 6.4%.
