Woman found dead in Meath flat named locally as gardai launch investigation

Romanian native Ioana Mihaela, age 30, was found dead in her Riverwalk Court apartment in Ratoath, County Meath. The victim’s family has given the Irish Mirror this morning the victim’s photo.

The victim was found dead at the apartment in Riverwalk Court, Ratoath, shortly after 6 pm yesterday.

A man known to her, who is in his 30s, is currently under arrest and detained by gardai. It is understood that gardai are investigating her death as a fatal assault, and a murder investigation is set to be launched.

Ms. Mihaela only moved into the apartment in Ratoath a week ago, locals say. And speaking at the scene local Councillor Gillian Toole said: “No more than everybody it was a shock to actually see the message that residents sent me last night, and extreme sadness that a young person’s life with so much potential can come to such an abrupt end.

“I think we have to no more than the extreme sadness for this lady and her family but also neighbours here in River Wood and how they must be feeling.

“I have to say I didn’t know the couple and I just heard they only recently moved in in the last week or two. Why do things like this happen. This year just seems to be off the scale for violence.

“It’s just incomprehensible but I think we have to ask why. “

A garda spokesman said: “Gardai at Ashbourne continue to investigate the death of a 30-year-old woman whose body discovered in an apartment at Riverwalk Court, Ratoath, Co Meath on Saturday the 12th of November, 2022.

“Her body has been removed from the scene and brought to the City Morgue at Whitehall where a post-mortem examination will be conducted by Dr. Bolster, Office of the State Pathologist, later today. Investigating gardai continue to question a man aged in his 30s arrested at the scene. He is currently detained at Ashbourne Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí were continuing to preserve the scene today to facilitate forensic and technical examinations.
