Coolidge cricket ground of Antigua witnessed an extraordinary T20 match between West indies and Sri Lanka, with extra ordinary performances from Kieron pollard of West Indies and Akhila Dananjaya of Srilanka. This was the very first T20 international held at the venue and first match in Caribbean’s after pandemic situation.
Kieron pollard became the third batsman to hit six sixes in an over in international cricket following Herschelle Gibbs of South Africa in the 2007 World Cup and then Yuvraj Singh of India at the 2007 T20 World Cup.
Dananjaya became only the 14th player and the fourth Sri Lankan to take a T20 international hat trick when he dismissed Evin Lewis (28), Gayle and Nicholas Pooran (0) with consecutive deliveries in the fourth over.
It was a bizarre day for Akila Dananjaya, who has been clubbed for six successive sixes after a hat-trick in the previous over
Sri Lanka managed only 131-9 in its 20 overs after being sent in to bat. It had been 86-3 but fell apart after a short rain break and lost six wickets for 45 runs. The West Indies won the match by four wickets with 41 balls in hand, finishing with 134-6.
