In a recent development, the Minister for Justice of Ireland has introduced a temporary arrangement benefiting non-nationals legally residing in the country. Effective from December 6, 2023, until January 31, 2024, individuals with recently expired Irish Residence Permit (IRP) cards (up to 8 weeks) can utilize them as proof for re-entry. This extension is applicable to those who’ve applied for renewal before the card’s expiry, evidenced by a renewal application receipt displaying the submission date.
Travelers under this provision must carry a printout of the official notice, the expired IRP card, and the renewal application receipt when presenting themselves to immigration authorities and airlines. Notably, the relaxed re-entry option does not apply to individuals without a renewal application in process.
It’s crucial to mention that individuals with a single entry visa and a previous landing stamp must obtain a visa for return travel to Ireland. Conversely, those with a valid multi-entry visa can travel and re-enter the State without hindrance. For more details on these arrangements, refer to www.irishimmigration.ie.
