After a huge gap of eight years, India and EU have decided to restart their negotiations on bilateral free trade. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoke to the EU leaders via video conference attending a summit in Portugal. The EU officials said that they are thrilled to make their prospects more closer with India. European Council president Charles Michel said that the agreement will be marked a new important chapter in their bilateral relations.
Both sides agreed to co-operate more in areas like artificial intelligence, digital and transport connectivity and supercomputing for pandemic and climate change modelling. The relation with India is the key for EU to expand their influence in Indo-Pacific region.
EU extended more medical aid for India to tackle the pandemic and trade talks on investment protection and geographic indicators which is a key interest for the EU, which places importance on protecting it’s distinctive products in order to speed up the process.
