Big changes in Ireland and happy news for Indian students on Stamp1G. Their time living here as students will be valid from now onwards as the rules have changed by the Department of Justice. The years the students have lived in Ireland on Stamp 1G will be calculated as reckonable residence for Citizenship.
The same is the case for spouses of Critical Skill Employment Permit holders who have spent their time here on Stamp1G. They too do not have to wait more than 5 years for citizenship. Also after 5 years on Stamp 1G, you can also apply for the coveted Stamp 4 now.
Stamp 4 Visa
Stamp 4 holders can take up employment and are not required to hold an Employment Permit. They can work in a profession, subject to the conditions of the relevant professional or other bodies. They can establish and operate a business, and access state funds, and services as determined by Government departments or agencies.
Stamp 1G Visa
Stamp 1G visa holders can work full-time in accordance with employment law requirements, but are not permitted to operate a business or be self-employed.
With the new changes, Stamp 1G is reckonable – meaning time on it counts towards the years needed in the country for citizenship. Stamp 1G for graduates and skilled workers’ partners counts toward citizenship.
A spokesperson for the Department of Justice said, “Both for graduates and partners of skilled workers who get an immigration stamp with the same name, Stamp 1G is reckonable for citizenship purposes.”
