Dart underground Plan estimated €4.5 billion revived by the National Transport Authority

The National Transport Authority (NTA) is planning to resurrect the Dart underground project which was dropped due to the economic crash a decade ago. The Luas Cross City and Metro were also planned along with the Dart underground project during the boom time.

These were considered the biggest projects at that time. €4.5 billion was estimated for the underground line which links Houston Station to the Dart line by tunneling under the city. The Luas were opened in December 2017 and the planning application is to be submitted shortly for the Metro.

NTA is planning to pursue the underground line scheme again which will be the largest in the city. The new line is expected to start at the Docklands and end at the west side of Houston Station.

NTA announced their plans to extend Dart services from Dublin to Drogheda, Celbridge and Maynooth. The extension works include purchase of new dart trains, electrification of the commuter lines. They didn’t include underground infrastructure in these extension plans.
