Free Nasal Flu Vaccines For Children Begin Today

The ‘Flunited’ campaign launched today to raise awareness about free nasal flu vaccines for children, aiming to prevent the hospitalization of kids due to influenza. Last year alone, 1,274 children were hospitalized with the flu, prompting the urgent need for vaccination.

DCU Professor of Immunology, Christine Loscher, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “The vaccine is available free for two to 12-year-olds as a nasal vaccination. It’s also available for 12 to 17-year-olds with underlying conditions and for all other children up to the age of 17. Additionally, the vaccine is available to adults in its standard form.”

The nasal vaccine can be obtained at GP clinics and pharmacies, offering a convenient and painless alternative. Professor Loscher highlighted, “It’s a nasal vaccination, so it is literally a quick sniff for a child, very straightforward.”

The campaign encourages parents to consider vaccinating their children to reduce the overall infection rate in the country, benefiting all age groups. Protect your child and the community – get them vaccinated today.
