Fuel prices edge up in June, adding pressure on commuters

Fuel prices in Ireland have continued their upward trend, with both petrol and diesel recording slight increases in June. The latest figures from the AA reveal that petrol now costs an average of €1.77 per litre, marking a 1 cent rise compared to May.

Similarly, diesel prices have also gone up by 1 cent month-on-month, reaching an average of €1.69 per litre. Though modest, these increases contribute to the growing cost burden faced by drivers across the country.

AA Ireland highlighted the impact on regular commuters, noting that even small price hikes can add up over time. “While the changes are relatively modest, they still add pressure for drivers, especially those commuting regularly,” said a spokesperson.

In contrast, the cost of charging Electric Vehicles (EVs) has remained unchanged. With stable prices and increased availability of infrastructure, EVs continue to offer a reliable and potentially more economical alternative for Irish motorists.
