Global cyber outage causes major delays for Ryanair and other airlines

Ryanair has announced network disruptions due to a global third-party IT outage. The airline is urging passengers to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their flight.

While systems at Dublin and Cork airports are functioning normally, check-in queues are growing due to issues with some airlines’ systems. Aer Lingus remains unaffected but advises customers to allow extra time for check-in, security, and boarding, and to stay updated via their website and app.

According to RTE, Belfast International Airport also reported longer waiting times but confirmed that flights are still operational. Across Europe, airlines and airports are facing similar technical issues, affecting various industries, including media companies, banks, and telecom firms.

Public transport services like Dublin Bus and Iarnród Éireann are operating normally, though the TFI Live and TFI Leap Top-Up apps are experiencing reduced functionality. Other services, including those from the Health Service Executive and An Garda Síochána, report no current issues.

Microsoft is investigating an issue with its 365 apps and operating systems, with some services still experiencing degradation. An IT problem at global cybersecurity firm Crowdstrike, affecting its Falcon sensor on Microsoft’s Windows OS, may be the root cause of these widespread outages.
