Irish boxer Kellie Harrington brought the second Gold medal for the country by winning Women’s Lightweight final in Tokyo Olympics. The 31 year old Dubliner smashed a tremendous victory over Brazil’s World No.1 boxer Beatriz Ferreira in the match took place at 6am today. It happens to be the last day of this Olympic season as Harrington brought happiness to the island country through a marvelous journey in Japan so far.
Kellie Harrington is the second woman boxer to win an Olympic Gold medal for Ireland and only the third Irish boxer to do so after Katie Taylor and Michelle Smith de Bruin.
From the start of the game, Ferreira was all into attack and Harrington with her skills of defense managed to stay calm but losing the first round. But from the second round on, Harrington too started attacking and at the same time using her tactics skillfully to get points. Impressed by her performance the judges proclaimed Harrington the Olympic Lightweight Gold medalist at last, unanimously.
