Govt to unveil nearly 600 new homes today as part of major public housing project in Shankill

Nearly 600 new homes will be unveiled today in Dublin’s Shankill area, marking the first batch of houses built on State-owned land by the current government.

While prices for affordable purchase homes will start at €334,600, cost rental apartments will have rents starting at €1,250.

The development is being delivered by the Land Development Agency (LDA) in partnership with Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.

This project, located at Shanganagh Castle Estate, is the largest public housing initiative in years and the first of approximately 20 housing projects planned by the Council on State-owned land.

Taoiseach Simon Harris and Housing Minister Darragh O’Brien will officially launch the first phase of the development today, which consists of 597 homes to be delivered in stages.

This initial phase includes 51 affordable purchase houses, 195 cost rental apartments, and 35 social apartments.

The remaining 316 homes, all apartments, will be released in two further phases by 2025. While eligible buyers can apply to purchase the 51 houses on October 9, the application portal for the 195 cost rental apartments will open later this year.
