Heavy rain alert: Three southern counties under weather warning

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rain warning for Cork, Kerry, and Waterford, with heavy rainfall expected to affect the southern region of Ireland. The warning remains in effect from 9am today until 6am tomorrow morning, with authorities cautioning about potential spot flooding, reduced visibility, and challenging travel conditions.

The national weather forecast indicates cloudy conditions across the country, with scattered rain and drizzle throughout the day. The southern and western regions are expected to experience the heaviest and most persistent rainfall, while the eastern half of the country should remain largely dry until evening hours.

Temperature variations across the country will range from 5 to 11 degrees Celsius, with Ulster experiencing the coolest conditions and Munster enjoying milder temperatures. The rainfall is predicted to spread eastward during the night, bringing wet and breezy conditions nationwide, with overnight temperatures ranging from 4 to 9 degrees.

According to The Journal, looking ahead to tomorrow, the day will begin with widespread rain and drizzle, though conditions are expected to improve as the rain moves northward during the morning and afternoon. Some hazy sunny spells may develop later in the day, with temperatures reaching between 7 and 11 degrees, warmest in the west and southwest. Fresh southeast winds will continue throughout the day.
