Heavy rain and strong winds expected across Ireland, Cork under yellow warning

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rain warning for Cork as Ireland braces for wet and windy weather conditions. The warning will be in effect from 1pm today until 8am tomorrow, with particular concerns about spot flooding along the south coast.

Today’s forecast details:

  • Morning: Mostly cloudy with light rain or drizzle in Munster and Connacht
  • Afternoon: Heavier rain spreading northeastwards
  • Winds: Moderate east to southeast, becoming strong and gusty in some areas
  • Temperatures: Highs of 4 to 8 degrees

Tonight’s conditions:

  • Widespread rain moving northeastwards
  • Sleet possible on high ground in Ulster
  • Fresh to strong, gusty east to southeast winds
  • Temperatures dropping to between 0 and 6 degrees

Tomorrow’s outlook shows some improvement, particularly for Munster and Connacht, which should see bright or sunny spells developing in the afternoon after the rain clears.

According to The Journal, the meteorological service particularly emphasizes the risk of spot flooding near the south coast, where the heaviest rainfall is expected. Residents in affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions.
