Somy Thomas has been elected to the board of Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) following an election in the general nursing category.
Somy, who originally hails from India, contested as a candidate of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation.
Reacting on her victory, Somy expressed her gratitude to everyone for their support during the election.
“This victory would not have been possible without your efforts, and I am deeply appreciative of the trust and confidence you have placed in me,” she wrote in a Facebook post.
She is currently serving as a clinical nurse specialist in Bon Secours Hospital in Dublin’s Glasnevin, and has worked in the Irish healthcare system for the past 20 years.
Somy also serves as the national treasurer of Migrant Nurses Ireland, an organisation that supports overseas nurses facing challenges in the country.
