Nitu Ghanghas defeated Mongolia’s Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg in the final of the 48kg category to win the gold medal at the Women’s Boxing World Championship 2023. This is India’s first gold in the ongoing tournament.
India’s Nitu Ghanghas defeated Mongolia’s Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg in the finals to win the gold medal in the 48kg category of the IBA Women’s Boxing World Championship 2023. She won 5-0 after a unanimous decision.
Nitu, who was playing her maiden final at the World Championships, started the match with an attacking approach while her opponent didn’t get carried away. The Mongolian pulled off a few punches, but it was the Indian boxer who dominated in the first round.
Belkibekova happens to be a two-time Asian Champion and gave Ghanghas quite a bit of trouble, but the Indian wrestler came up trumps in the crunch encounter.
Later in the day, Saweety Boora will lock horns with Lina Wang of China in the final of the 81kg category. Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain will also be in action in their finals on Sunday, March 26.

Nitu Ghanghas, born on 19th October 2000, in the Dhanana village of Haryana, India is an Indian boxer who in addition to being the 2023 world champion in the minimumweight category is also a two-time world youth champion in the light flyweight. She also won the 2022 Commonwealth Games in the minimumweight category.
