A total of 6,884 new dwellings were completed in Ireland in Q2 2024, a drop of 5.4 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to the latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
While apartment completions stood at 1,566, there were 3,949 scheme dwelling completions and 1,369 single dwelling completions this quarter.
Similarly, new dwelling completions dropped by 8.6 per cent in the first half of 2024, with only 12,730 completions compared to 13,923 completions in the same period of 2023.
There was a drop in completions from Q2 2023 to Q2 2024 in four of the eight regions of Ireland, including a 19.4 per cent fall in the Mid-East region.
According to the Irish government, it is estimated that the country will need an average of 33,000 new homes per year from 2021 to 2030.
