Ireland shocked Portugal with a big victory in the World Cup football qualifiers on Thursday. Portugal’s super footballer Cristiano Ronaldo received a red card, and Ireland won the match for 2–0.

On Thursday night at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, Troy Parrott scored both goals for Ireland in a tough and exciting game. He netted the goals in the 17th and 45th minutes of the first half, breaking through the Portuguese defense. Even though Portugal had more possession and control of the ball, Irish team became the ultimate winners. Through this Ireland could keep the qualifier chances alive.
With about half an hour left in the match, Ronaldo was shown a red card for elbowing Irish defender Dara O’Shea off the ball. This is the first time Ronaldo has been sent off in a senior international match. It happened after playing 225 matches for Portugal. Because of the red card, he will not be able to play in Portugal’s next match against Armenia on Sunday.
Meanwhile, in the group stage, Ireland will play their next match against Hungary on Sunday.
