Population of Ireland could reach a little over 7 million people by 2057, according to a projection by the Central Statistics Office.
The 7 million projection is among the three potential population growth scenarios that could take place over the period from 2023 to 2057. The other two scenarios project the population to grow to 6.446 million and 5.734 million by 2057.
Net migration per annum, according to the CSO, remains the key change in each of these scenarios, while assumptions regarding fertility and mortality remain constant across the three scenarios.
It also noted that the number of people aged 65 years and over is set to reach over 1 million by 2030.
According to projections, the Labour Force is also expected to increase under all three potential population growth scenarios.
