Irish-based nurse from Kanyakumari passes away in Dublin

Julian Agapitus, 37, who recently joined Cloverhill Prison nursing staff, remembered by community

Julian Agapitus, a 37-year-old staff nurse from Kanyakumari Thoothur serving in Dublin, Ireland, has passed away, leaving the Irish-Indian community in mourning.

Agapitus had recently joined Cloverhill Prison in Wheatfield, Dublin as a staff nurse after previously working at St. James’s Hospital, one of Dublin’s major healthcare facilities.

The funeral service was held at St. Thomas Forona Church in Thoothur, within the Archdiocese of Thiruvananthapuram. A memorial service is scheduled for November 5 at the same church, allowing family, friends, and community members to pay their respects.

Agapitus’s passing highlights the significant contribution of Indian-origin healthcare professionals to Ireland’s medical system, with many serving in hospitals, nursing homes, and correctional facilities across the country. Prison nursing roles are particularly challenging, requiring staff to provide healthcare in complex environments while maintaining security protocols.

The Dublin-based Indian community and colleagues from both St. James’s Hospital and Cloverhill Prison are expected to remember Agapitus’s service and dedication to nursing.

Details surrounding the circumstances of his passing have not been publicly disclosed. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time as they arrange memorial services in both Ireland and India.

Community members have expressed condolences and support for Agapitus’s family as they cope with the sudden loss.
