Irish Rail announces extra services for weekend sports events

Irish Rail (Iarnród Éireann) is implementing a special schedule for the bank holiday weekend to accommodate fans attending both the Six Nations Ireland v England match and the Cork v Limerick hurling fixture.

Additional DART and intercity services will run on Saturday for the Six Nations match at the Aviva Stadium, with Grand Canal Dock Station closing after the game for crowd management. Extra services will also operate between Cork and Limerick for hurling supporters.

Key Saturday additions include:

  • Morning and evening services between Cork and Dublin Heuston
  • Additional afternoon trains from Athy, Dundalk, and Longford to Dublin
  • Evening return services to various destinations including Maynooth and Dundalk

According to The Journal, the bank holiday weekend will see some service disruptions, particularly in Galway, where track works at Ceannt Station will require bus transfers between Athenry and Galway from Sunday afternoon through Monday morning.

Irish Rail advises all passengers to check updated timetables before traveling and pre-book intercity journeys. Monday will operate on a revised schedule, with DART and several commuter routes running Sunday service times.
