Irish Rail Receives Nearly 700 Complaints About Bad Behavior on Trains

Irish Rail’s text service has been flooded with almost 700 complaints over the span of three months. Since 2019, passengers have had the option to report incidents of misconduct via text, resulting in 686 complaints between November and February of this year.

The most frequent grievances included drinking alcohol, drunkenness, drug use, smoking, racist behavior, and disruptive music or video playing. One report described a group of teenagers blowing vapes in people’s faces, while another detailed three individuals openly consuming and snorting drugs in plain sight.

Irish Rail encourages passengers to report incidents by texting 51444 with the word “TRAIN,” along with specifics about the incident, its location, and the train service involved.
