Liffey Valley employees to stage protest outside shopping centre over new paid parking charges

Employees at Liffey Valley are planning a peaceful protest outside the retail centre on Sunday, ahead of the introduction of new pay parking for the first time.

The shopping center’s car park recently had a €30 million transformation, which included expanding handicap spaces by 14%, parent and child spaces by 46%, and installing 20 electric vehicle charging stations.

On Monday, October 17, Liffey Valley will unveil a “complete parking guidance system,” which will show real-time data on approach roads and within car parks to lead customers to the nearest available berth.

Following a meeting earlier this week, Liffey Valley staff will organise a protest this Sunday, October 16, beginning at 12 p.m. outside Cosmos.

The organisers of the protest have told Dublin Live that the peaceful demonstration is taking place from 12-4pm because “staff are very worried about paying €600 a year on parking with no guarantee of getting a parking space.”

Park Easy, Liffey Valley’s new paid parking management system, will be a ticketless and cashless system that will scan a customer’s car registration number as they drive into the car park.

On October 16, a daily rate of €2.50 will be implemented for a designated staff car park, amounting to nearly €600 per year for employees who drive and work full-time.

Customers who spend 0-3 hours must pay €2.50, 3-4 hours must pay €5.00, 4-5 hours must pay €7.50, 5-6 hours must pay €10.00, and 6-7 hours must pay €12.50. (Max Day Rate) Between the hours of 6 p.m. and 8 a.m., there is a flat rate evening fee of €2.50.
