One man has died after drowning in West Clare .He was walking along the shoreline and pulled out to sea in Kilkee on sunday afternoon.
A major search and rescue operation was prepared after the alarm was raised at around 2.15pm.
The Kilkee unit of the Irish Coast Guard, the National Ambulance Service, the Shannon-based Coast Guard helicopter – Rescue 115 – the Aran Islands RNLI lifeboat, and Gardaí responded to the incident.
According to the report, the man, in his 30s from Kilrush, was picking seaweed with friends on the shoreline near Farrihy Bay north of Kilkee, when he lost his footing and was pulled out to sea.
He was pronounced dead at Kilkee coastguard station. From here, his body was taken to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem is to be carried out.
Gardaí are investigating the circumstances of the incident.
