Minister Paschal Donohoe Optimistic About Salary Increase Implementation In Ireland

Dublin – In a press conference today, Minister Paschal Donohoe expressed optimism regarding the implementation of a salary increase in Ireland by the end of the year. The Public Expenditure and Reforms Minister anticipates positive developments in ongoing negotiations for public sector salary reforms.

Dona stated that he aims to “give everyone a good deal” as the government engages in talks with trade unions representing 385,000 public servants this week. The discussions will focus on drafting a new pay deal, either as a continuation of the existing contract or as a new annual contract, acknowledging the rising cost of living.

Highlighting the government’s commitment to employee welfare, Dona mentioned that out of every three euros spent, one euro is directed toward ensuring the life security of the workforce. Despite the current uncertain state, there is confidence in the continuous growth of the Irish economy.

The Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU) has urged the government to address the removal of emergency industrial relations legislation introduced during the financial crisis in the negotiations.

Dona expects the proposed pay hikes to come into effect by the close of the year, providing a positive outlook amid economic challenges.
