Public transport fares hiked marginally in Ireland

Ireland’s National Transport Authority has marginally hiked the prices of public transport services — Luas, Dublin Bus and Iarnrod Eireann rail — as part of the first phase of the 2024 fares plan.

While short journey fares were increased for Luas and Dublin Bus services from June 23, the increased fares will be applicable for Irish Rail services from June 24. This will translate to a 20 per cent increase for TFI Leap card users for short journeys with fares going from €1.30 to €1.50. For cash users, fares will be increased from €1.70 to €2.

Notably, the discounted €2 TFI 90-minute fare, which allows Leap card users free transfer between Dublin Bus, Luas and most DART, commuter rail and Go-Ahead Ireland services in Dublin, will remain in place.

A new flat town fare of €1.50 for Leap card users will be launched on regional town bus services in Athlone, Balbriggan, Carlow, Clonmel, Drogheda, Dundalk, Kilkenny, Navan and Sligo. The cash fare for these services, however, will change to €2.
