Sinn Féin has emerged as the indisputable leader in Irish politics when it comes to social media engagement, boasting a staggering 925,900 followers across various platforms. This milestone solidifies the party’s position as the most followed political entity in the country.
In a remarkable display of growth, Sinn Féin has more than doubled its social media following since 2020, when it had a comparatively modest 421,600 followers. This exponential increase underscores the party’s effective utilization of digital platforms to connect with voters and disseminate its message.
However, while Sinn Féin leads the pack by a significant margin, other parties and individual politicians are also making waves in the digital sphere. People Before Profit, the second-ranked party, commands a respectable 170,200 followers, followed by the Social Democrats with 146,900 followers.
When it comes to individual politicians, former Prime Minister Leo Varadkar reigns supreme with the highest number of followers, closely followed by Prime Minister-designate Simon Harris. Mary Lou MacDonald, leader of Sinn Féin, secures the third position in terms of individual politicians’ social media following.
The digital landscape continues to play an increasingly influential role in shaping political discourse and engaging voters. As parties and politicians navigate this terrain, the ability to leverage social media effectively is becoming ever more crucial in reaching and mobilizing constituents.
