A nationwide status yellow snow and ice warning has been issued by Met Eireann. The warning will come into effect from 4 p.m. on Thursday and will continue until 11 a.m. on Friday.
There could be scattered showers of hail, sleet and snow tonight and may continue to Friday morning.
The situation will make travelling difficult and road users are advised to take extra precautions. Vehicles have to be driven slowly, especially on turns as ice sleets may cause tyres skidding.
“Showers will be most widespread in the west and north of the country where some accumulations are likely, isolated thunderstorms will occur also,” Met Éireann said.
