The Times Newspaper asks the court to grant permission to recheck a 2014 Garda report

Times Newspaper Ltd. had appealed the court to allow them to inspect a report prepared by Garda for the Justice Minister seven years ago. They wanted to trace out some points from it to defend a defamation action by Garda against them over a Sunday Times article.

The newspaper group asked for a 2014 Garda report titled, A Report for the Minister for Justice concerning the provision of confidential information by a serving member of the Garda to dissent republicans. The defamation case is filed by Lynda Meegan. The Garda Commissioner is opposing the inspection application and he said that this move is against preserving Garda’s investigation effectiveness and protect informations

The article speaks on a female officer had sent texts and alerted Joe Fee, the convicted bomb maker, on the identities of dissidents arrested by Garda. An officer who cannot be named resigned after being confronted and is the subject of a continuing criminal investigation”

Ms. Meegan claims that the Garda referred in the article is she and the allegations told are misleading, false and defamatory.
