Using third-party apps to book your driving test in Ireland? Your test could be cancelled

The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has issued a strong warning to learner drivers in Ireland: driving test bookings made through unauthorised third-party apps or websites will be cancelled.

Several apps and websites currently advertise faster access to driving test slots by automatically scanning for cancellations at multiple test centres. These services claim bookings can be secured up to 18 times faster than using the official system. Some charge fees ranging from €14.99 per booking, €9.99 per week, to as much as €95 for a single appointment.

However, the RSA has made it clear that this practice is not approved.

RSA Chief Operating Officer Brendan Walsh said the authority is actively moving to block these services and will invalidate any test appointments obtained through them. Only bookings made directly through the RSA’s official MyRoadSafety portal are recognised.

The RSA also warned that these third-party platforms are not secure and may put users’ personal data at risk, including licence details and contact information.

Learner drivers are advised to:

  • Book tests only through the RSA’s official website

  • Avoid apps or sites promising “guaranteed” or “fast-track” slots

  • Be cautious about sharing personal details with unofficial services

With long waiting times already causing frustration, the RSA says using unauthorised shortcuts could ultimately leave candidates back at the end of the queue.
