IFS officer with 25 years’ experience to take up Dublin posting after serving as High Commissioner to Ghana

The Indian government has appointed Manish Gupta, a senior Indian Foreign Service officer, as the next Ambassador to the Republic of Ireland, the Ministry of External Affairs announced Friday.
Gupta, a 1998 batch IFS officer currently serving as India’s High Commissioner to Ghana, will soon assume his new role in Dublin. During his Ghana tenure, he worked to strengthen India’s diplomatic, trade, and cultural connections with West African nations.
The veteran diplomat brings over 25 years of international experience to the Ireland posting, having held key positions across multiple continents. His career includes postings in New Delhi, New York, Istanbul, Sydney, Dakar, and Brussels.
From 2009 to 2013, Gupta served at India’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York, where he functioned as Political Counsellor and Coordinator on the UN Counter-Terrorism Committee. He also represented India on the Executive Boards of UNDP and UNICEF during this period.
He subsequently served as Consul General in Istanbul, Turkey (2013-2016) and Sydney, Australia, gaining extensive experience managing India’s interests in diverse regions. Earlier postings included Brussels (2000-2002) and Dakar (2002-2005).
As Joint Secretary for Overseas Affairs at the Ministry of External Affairs from 2016 to 2019, Gupta handled critical portfolios including migration, mobility, labor policy, and welfare of overseas Indians. He also served as CEO of the India Centre for Migration, a Ministry think tank focused on international migration and diaspora engagement.
Gupta holds a B.Tech degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from IIT-BHU. He is married to Nimisha Gupta and has one son.
