Who is Jack Chambers, Ireland’s new Finance Minister?

Fianna Fáil leader Jack Chambers has been appointed as Ireland’s new Finance Minister, after Michael McGrath was nominated to become the country’s next European commissioner.

33-year-old Chambers is the youngest Finance Minister of the country since Michael Collins, who held the position in 1919 at the age of 29.

The Dublin West TD, who previously served as the minister of state brief in the Department of Transport, will have the enormous task of working on October’s Budget.

The announcement also comes a week after Chambers was appointed Deputy Leader of the Fianna Fail by Michael Martin.

Chambers was elected to the Dail in the February 2016 general election and was re-elected in the 2020 poll.
