Young TDs push housing crisis to top of new Dáil agenda

A new wave of Generation Z TDs elected to the 34th Dáil is already making their presence felt, with housing affordability emerging as their primary concern for the incoming government.

Several representatives under 30, including Fianna Fáil’s Albert Dolan, Sinn Féin’s Louis O’Hara, and Labour’s Eoghan Kenny – notably the first TD born in the 21st century – are seeking key committee positions to address Ireland’s housing challenges.

Labour TD Eoghan Kenny highlighted the severity of the housing crisis, stating: “The average age of a person buying a house in Ireland now is 39-years-old. That’s too old.”

According to The Irish Examiner, the push by these young legislators reflects growing concern about housing accessibility for younger generations, with the new TDs aiming to bring fresh perspectives to one of Ireland’s most pressing social issues.

This influx of younger representatives in the Dáil marks a significant shift in Irish politics, bringing generational experience of housing difficulties directly into the parliamentary debate.
