Dublin – The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has taken decisive action, issuing closure notices to ten establishments across the country following a series of alarming safety inspections conducted in August. The FSAI’s inspections revealed a disturbing array of health and hygiene violations, leading to immediate closures.
Inspectors unearthed a litany of health hazards, including unsanitary premises, bird droppings, dead insects, rodents, water contamination from road puddles, leaking walls, damaged equipment, and improper pest control. Shockingly, some establishments were found selling food at unsafe temperatures, while others lacked hot water in sinks, failed to provide allergy warnings, and even sold illegal food items.
Dr. Pamela Byrne, head of the FSAI, expressed grave concerns about the potential for contaminants like animal excrement and chemicals from road runoff to enter the food supply during waterlogging incidents. She emphasized the importance of maintaining proper food temperatures, especially in the summer heat.
The following establishments were among those slapped with closure orders:
- Ginzeng (restaurant/café), Blanchardstown, Dublin 15
- Cashel Curry and Pizza House, Tipperary
- Bakers and Baristas (closed area: external dry goods storage), Blanchardstown, Dublin 15
- D Grill, Dublin 2
- The Bernard Shaw (closed areas: basement, food rooms, staff facilities), Dublin 9
- McSorley’s Centre, Enniscorthy, Wexford
- Dalesann Haulage Limited, Dublin 11
- Paddy O’Dwyer Quality Meats Ltd. (butcher shop, closed activity: cooling down cooked foods), Cashel, Tipperary
- Mizzoni Pizza (takeaway), Navan, Meath
- M Vape (retailer, Prohibition Order), Sligo
The FSAI is committed to safeguarding public health and will continue to carry out rigorous inspections to ensure that food establishments adhere to safety regulations. These closures underscore the critical importance of maintaining impeccable standards within the food industry to protect consumers from potential health risks.
