Global online retail giant Amazon has officially launched its Irish website today, marking a significant expansion of its presence in the country. The new Amazon.ie site promises to deliver “over 200 million products” specifically tailored for Irish customers.

The dedicated Irish platform will feature prices in Euro, one-day delivery options, and “easier returns” for shoppers. Importantly for consumers, Amazon has confirmed there will be no additional customs charges when ordering goods through the Irish site.
In a notable feature of the launch, Amazon has partnered with Enterprise Ireland to create a ‘Brands of Ireland’ section showcasing Irish businesses. This dedicated marketplace aims to support companies of all sizes, from SMEs to larger enterprises, with well-known names like Barry’s Tea, Bewley’s, and skincare brand Ella & Jo among those highlighted.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin has endorsed the expansion, stating: “This expansion by Amazon will give consumers more choice and better value, as well as help small, medium and large businesses across the country promote their own Irish and international products.” The Taoiseach added that users “will know that they will get a well-trusted, great service” and described the launch as “good news for all.”
According to The Journal, the move represents the culmination of Amazon’s growing interest in the Irish market. In 2022, the company established a ‘fulfilment centre’ in Dublin that significantly improved delivery times for Irish customers. Amazon also maintains several data centres throughout Ireland.
The tech giant currently employs more than 6,000 people across its operations in Cork, Dublin, and Drogheda. Amazon’s founder and principal shareholder, multibillionaire Jeff Bezos, continues to play a significant role in the company’s global expansion strategy.
