Social welfare recipients will see a €5 weekly increase from January, it was confirmed on Tuesday.
A full Christmas bonus is also on the way after a tough 18 months for the public during the pandemic.
Public Expenditure Michael McGrath announced the news while presenting Budget 2022 the Dail this afternoon, following on from an earlier speech by Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe.
Mr Donohoe said: “We are entering a new phase where we will recover, restore and repair.
“In framing this Budget, the Government has been conscious on the cost of living pressures that are confronting so many citizens and businesses.
“As the recovery takes hold and we get back to normality, we in Government remain focus on the higher levels of debt – which will come in at €240billion next year.
“Budget 2022 meets the twin goals of investing in our future and meeting the needs of today.”
Mr McGrath confirmed that the State Pension will rise to €253.30 in the New Year – an increase of €5 per week.
The Living Alone Allowance will also see an increase of €3 to €22 next year.
Those receiving the Illness Benefit or Jobseeker’s allowance will also get a €5 boost.
“This includes a full €5 increase for young jobseekers,” the Minister said.
“The Increase for Qualified Children rate in respect of children under 12 will rise by €2 and by €3 for those aged 12 and over.
“Over a long period, our social welfare system has sought to redress the balance, supporting the most vulnerable among us.”
Fuel Allowance will jump to €33 per week, but there’s bad news for your pocket on the carbon tax front.
This will take another significant jump of €7.50 to €41 per tonne – and will increase by the same amount each year until 2030.
