More than 300 employees at Cardinal Health in Tullamore, Co Offaly, are set to lose their jobs following the company’s decision to close its plant by spring 2026, RTE reported.
The announcement was made during a meeting with staff and union members earlier today.
Operations at the Tullamore site were halted yesterday in preparation for the staff meeting.
The closure is part of the company’s broader strategy to optimize its global business, manufacturing, and supply chain operations.
Despite the closure, Cardinal Health stated that its commercial activities in Ireland would not be affected by this decision.
The healthcare services company emphasized that the move is necessary to meet the changing needs of its customers, the industry, and its overall business.
The company has reportedly offered staff a full redundancy package, including six weeks’ pay per year of service, in addition to the statutory two weeks’ pay, as part of the compensation for those affected by the closure.
