Demand for green skills in Ireland surges by over 22%: Report

The demand for green skills in Ireland increased by 22.1 per cent last year, surpassing the global average of 11.6 per cent, according to new research.

According to the latest Labour Market Pulse, published by IDA Ireland in collaboration with Microsoft and LinkedIn, Ireland experienced nearly double the global growth rate for green skills, with demand increasing by 11.9 per cent compared to the worldwide average of 6 per cent between 2021 and 2024.

LinkedIn’s analysis also revealed that Ireland ranks among the top countries for green job postings, with one in eight roles now requiring at least one green skill.

Industries such as utilities, construction, and manufacturing have the highest concentration of green skills, with areas like environmental impact assessment and operational efficiency seeing the fastest growth in demand. These sectors are leading the transition toward more sustainable practices.

However, the need for green expertise is expanding into other sectors, including professional services, financial services, and technology. Skills like sustainable supply chain management, pollution prevention, and renewable energy are becoming critical across a growing range of industries as businesses strive to meet sustainability targets.
