Travellers planning to depart from Dublin Airport this week are warned that all parking lots “are sold out,” with the earliest opportunity for long-term parking on May 30.
The operator of Dublin Airport, the Daa, has advised travellers without confirmed reservations to think about alternative forms of transportation, like as buses, taxis, or rides from friends or family, while travelling to and from the airports.
The authority’s Communications Manager Graeme McQueen said: “If you do turn up by car there’s no guarantee there will be a space here for you if you haven’t booked. The message is if you’re travelling to Dublin Airport don’t do it by car, look for an alternative option.
“Either come by bus, get a taxi out or maybe get a friend to drop you out. Other than that we’d be recommending that people look at maybe parking somewhere else in the Dublin areas and transiting in from there.”
Passenger volumes have surpassed 95,000 in recent days, showing that the summer season is starting to reach its peak already.
The number of passengers passing through the airport has reached pre-covid levels. However, the closure of 6,200 Quick Park slots, which are no longer operational, still results in a 20% reduction in parking places.
Mr. McQueen said that they are looking to purchase the carpark to alleviate pressures on parking. “That car park is sitting idle at the moment. While that’s not on the market to consumers it’s putting a real squeeze on our own car park so we are keen to see that carpark being re-opened as soon as possible.
“We’ve made an offer to buy that car park, that offer has been accepted but the competition authorities are taking a look at that to make sure they’re happy with the deal so we’d be hopeful that we can get that car park back into action as soon as possible.
“We would love that to happen in time for summer but that’s looking unlikely at the moment.”
