In a reversal of a four-month downward trend, petrol and diesel prices in Ireland saw a spike this February, according to AA Ireland’s latest monthly fuel price survey. Petrol prices climbed from €1.68 to €1.71 per liter, while diesel prices surged from €1.68 to €1.72 per liter. The increase is attributed to a rise in crude oil prices, which reached $83 per barrel from $79 in January.
Motorists are feeling the impact of these rising costs, with AA Ireland’s head of communications, Blake Boland, expressing concern. Boland noted the potential for further instability in oil-producing regions and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine to influence crude oil prices.
However, there is a silver lining for electric vehicle (EV) owners, who experienced a reduction in charging costs in February. AA Ireland estimates that covering 17,000 km in an EV costs an average of €900.43 per year, significantly less than the approximately €2,047 for a diesel vehicle covering the same distance.
