Funeral of Sister Joan Kuzhivelil CSJ to be held Wednesday in Dublin

The funeral of Sister Joan Kuzhivelil CSJ, a 90-year-old religious sister from Kerala who passed away in Ireland, will take place on Wednesday at Our Lady Mother of Divine Grace Church, Raheny, at 11am.

Sister Joan, a member of the Congregation of St. Joseph, passed away on January 5 at St. Joseph’s Community Nursing Home in Raheny, Dublin, where she had been residing following a long career of service in Ireland. She was originally from Kaduthuruthy Arunassery in Kerala.

The body will lie in state for public viewing at Jennings Funeral Home, Spring Dale Road, Raheny, from 1:30pm to 3:30pm on Tuesday, allowing community members, friends, and fellow religious to pay their respects.

Sister Joan was the daughter of the late M.V. John and Elikkutty of Kuzhivelil family, Arunassery. She is survived by her siblings: Mary Kuruvila Pantalloor, John J., Celine Mathew Thuruthimattom, Major Mathew J., and Prof. K.J. Joseph. She was predeceased by her brother, the late Fr. George J. Kuzhivelil SJ.

Throughout her religious life, Sister Joan served as a teacher in mission schools both in India and abroad, dedicating her life to education and service in the tradition of the Congregation of St. Joseph.

The Kerala community in Ireland and the wider religious community extend their condolences to Sister Joan’s family and the Sisters of St. Joseph during this time of mourning.
