A total of 194 new members were sworn into An Garda Síochána on Friday, increasing the force’s strength to 14,481. The intake includes 137 men and 57 women, with 18 recruits born outside the State across several European countries, as well as South Africa and Scotland. An additional 17 Garda Reserve members were also attested.

Of the newly sworn-in Gardaí, 87 will be deployed in Dublin, 39 in the East, 47 in the South, and 21 in the North West. Meanwhile, 365 recruits from previous intakes continue their training at the Garda College.
The next group of more than 220 trainees is scheduled to begin training on November 17th, bringing the total number of Garda trainees entering the college in 2025 to approximately 800.
Speaking at the attestation ceremony, Commissioner Justin Kelly praised the new probationers and highlighted the importance of their future interactions with the public. He noted that even brief encounters can leave a lasting impact, especially during difficult moments in people’s lives, reminding recruits that their presence “matters and means something.”
