The government has allocated €696 million from the Local Property Tax (LPT) to local authorities for 2025. This funding, announced by Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage, Darragh O’Brien, TD, will support local councils in providing essential services. The allocation includes an estimated LPT yield of €552 million, supplemented by €144 million from the Exchequer to ensure all councils receive at least a baseline amount.
This baseline funding, increased by €75.4 million in 2024, remains unchanged for 2025. Minister O’Brien highlighted the vital role of local authorities and the importance of this funding in meeting growing demands. Minister of State for Local Government and Planning, Alan Dillon, TD, also expressed support, noting the significant impact on local communities.
Equalization ensures all councils receive the necessary baseline funding, combining LPT yield and Exchequer support. This process helps maintain adequate service levels across the country, allowing local authorities to address specific resource needs. The detailed breakdown of funding by county is available for review.
